The Brantley Bulldogs, behind the running of Derek Holley and Devonte Porter and the passing of Chase Hall, cruised to a 42-0 shutout of Pleasant Home at Eagle Field on Friday night.

Brantley rushed for 264 yards and passed for 121 more, while holding the Eagles to 140 total yards.

Pleasant Home’s Tyler Barbaree had 89 yards rushing on 27 carries. Ethan King was 5-of-14 passing for 29 yards. The Eagles travel to Kinston next Friday night, while the Bulldogs face the McKenzie Tigers.

The Bulldogs wasted little time by scoring on the second play from scrimmage on a 50-yard pass from Hall to wide receiver Devonte Porter. Adam Hall kicked the extra point to give Brantley a quick 7-0 lead. The Eagles failed to move the ball on their possession and punted the ball to Brantley 30-yard-line. Holley broke a 30-yard run to set up Hall’s second touchdown pass. This time Tony Upshaw hauled in a 25-yard pass with 5:50 left in the first quarter to give the Bulldogs a 14-0 lead.

In the second quarter, Holley raced 40 yards to set up another touchdown pass from Hall to Cassius Tillus. The play covered 35 yards and put Brantley up 21-0. The Eagles’ defense stiffened but Porter scored from 4 yards out with only 23 seconds left in the half. Hall’s kick made it 28-0 at the half.

Pleasant Home came out fighting in the second half, but Porter broke a 30-yard run for his third touchdown of the evening midway thru the third quarter. The extra point attempt failed and Brantley led 34-0.

Brantley’s Zachery Willey scored the last touchdown for the Bulldogs on a 21-yard run with 8:37 left to play. The Bulldogs’ two-point conversion made it 42-0.
