A Florala man was arrested Wednesday after law enforcement found a “sizeable amount” of moonshine and marijuana in his Lockhart Church Road home.
Drug Task Force agent David Harrell said the actions of 48-year-old David Hutchinson, a recent “transplant” to the area, were under investigation by both the DTF and the Florala Police Department for “a period of time.”
Harrell said a search warrant was executed at Hutchinson’s home shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday.
“Inside we located a sizeable amount of moonshine and marijuana, as well as cash,” he said. “We don’t have any evidence that would show Mr. Hutchinson made the moonshine, but it was in his possession. As for the marijuana, I would estimate approximately $600 worth was located.”
Harrell said the investigation began when Hutchinson was allegedly caught providing drugs to other individuals.
“Without the assistance of (Florala’s) Chief Sonny Bedsole and assistant chief Chris Jackson, this arrest would not have been possible,” Harrell said. “Mr. Hutchinson is not from here originally, and his arrest is just another piece of proof that drug abuse or distribution is not to be tolerated here in Covington County.”
Hutchinson is charged with first-degree possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, two counts of distribution of a controlled substance and possession of prohibited liquor and booked into the county jail under a $216,000 bond.
