Latest weather update for Covington County

Published 9:28 am Tuesday, December 15, 2009

As of 6:42 a.m., the latest satellite and radar trends continue to indicate showers and thunderstorms repeatedly moving into the area. Also, an area of moderate to heavy rains was moving across inland portions of southwest and south central Alabama, north and east of a line from Camden to Monroeville to Andalusia.

Additional heavy rains moving out of east central Mississippi will move eastward into these areas later this morning – mainly north of a line from Richton to McIntosh to Castleberry to Andalusia.

Additional flood warnings are likely for these areas. Currently, a flood watch remains in affect through this afternoon for the Conecuh, Yellow and Blackwater rivers.

Some storms may produce wind gusts up to 40-to-50 miles-per-hour; however, hail and tornadoes are not predicted.

This remains a very serious situation. One to two inches per hour of rainfall rates will quickly begin flash flooding.
