An Andalusia Police Department officer was injured Tuesday during a foot pursuit of a suspected car burglar.
Assistant chief Mike Bowlan said Officer Adam Hattaway, a two-year employee with the APD, attempted to give chase when the accident occurred.
“Officers responded to a call for a vehicle burglary sometime around 7 p.m. and were able to determine the suspect’s description.”
Hattaway was pursuing someone who fit the description in the vicinity of North Cotton Street and Eighth Avenue when he slipped into a concrete drainage ditch.
Reports indicate Hattaway suffered a broken ankle in the fall. He was transported to Andalusia Regional Hospital, where he was treated and released.
Bowlan said the suspect was caught and placed on hold for questioning, and as of Wednesday afternoon, investigators were pursuing leads into the car burglary.
