MONTGOMERY (AP) — A three-week effort to pass a $1 billion road construction bill in the Alabama Senate has failed.
The bill’s sponsor, Democratic Sen. Lowell Barron of Fyffe, tried to cut off a filibuster on the bill Tuesday afternoon, but he fell one vote short of the number needed for cloture. The vote was 20-11.
But Barron immediately pulled the bill from consideration. That will allow him to try to bring it up later in the session.
