The Andalusia Bulldogs took a hard loss on the road Thursday night against area opponent Clarke County, falling 6-5 in nine innings.
The Bulldogs (13-19, 4-3 in Class 4A, Area 3) took a 3-0 lead in the fifth inning and Clarke County quickly got on top, scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth.
In the top of the seventh, Andalusia tied the game up at 4-4 and added another run to take its second lead of the game at 5-4.
Clarke County scored one run to tie the game up in the bottom of the seventh inning to send the game into extra innings.
“The kids played hard,” Andalusia coach Jonathan Rasberry said. “It was a good hard fought game for both teams. It was hard for us to lose in the manner that we did. I’ve never complained about umpires, but it was the worst umpired game I’ve ever been a part of.”
Despite everything that happened, Rasberry said he was proud of how his team battled in the end.
“Again, the kids played well — I couldn’t have asked any more out of them.”
