MONTGOMERY (AP) — Alabama Attorney General Troy King says Gov. Bob Riley can no more overrule the powers of the attorney general than he can overrule the actions of the state Supreme Court.

King responded Friday to the governor’s letter telling the attorney general that he was overruling and nullifying his decision to fire the commander of the governor’s gambling task force.

King said the governor’s letter places the state in a constitutional crisis and raises concerns about whether someone can become the law by declaration. King said he’s urging the Supreme Court to tell Riley that he does not possess unlimited power.
