Dream Park meeting Tuesday

Area residents will have an opportunity to get a sneak preview of renovations and an expansion planned in Andalusia’s Dream Park when Leathers and Associates presents a plan at 6 p.m. this Tues., April 13, in the Dixon Center of LBWCC.

The renovation will include an expansion for special needs children, Kristy White, one of the project’s coordinators, said. The renovations in the Dream Park were chosen as the joint civic project of Absolutely Andalusia: Homecoming 2010.

White said the representatives of Leathers and Associates will spend time in the park Tuesday before making recommendations Tuesday night.

“The park is already very accessible,” White said. “They’ll look at the accessibility already there and make recommendations.”

One change that would make the park more accessible to those with challenges is a different surface, she said.

“If there were a heavier surface, then children could get in and around what is already there,” she said, adding that both a poured surface and a sort of rubberized surface made from recycled tires will be considered.

“The Dream Park Foundation has agreed to help pay for some form of a better surface in Dream Park,” she said.

Volunteers also will be raising additional funds for the expansion, she said, with a goal of $50,000.

“We’ve already had great response, and fundraising will start after the reveal on Tuesday night,” she said.

Anyone who is interested is invited to the Tuesday night meeting, she said.
