Locals can bid on lake project

Locals looking to do subcontracting work on the Florala State Park lake project may soon have their opportunity.

State park officials said Monday state workers will be on hand in the coming days to begin preliminary site work and to line up subcontractors.

The outer faade of the building and the outdoor amphitheater steps are complete.

Inside, there are bare sheetrock walls and concrete sub-flooring, no ceiling tiles and more – meaning there is a need for sheetrock finishers, painters, electricians, tile installers and others.

Mark Easterwood, state park system director, said interested parties should contact park manager Donny Thornton to bid on a specific job.

“It’s going to take some time to line things up, and depending on where those figures come in will determine how long it will take to finish the project,” Easterwood said.

To complete the facility, preliminary estimates total approximately $200,000.

“Of course, we’re hoping to come in less than that, so we’ll see,” he said.
