Tickets are now on sale for the Opp Chamber of Commerce’s annual membership and Hall of Fame banquet.
“The annual membership banquet provides one of several opportunities for chamber members to congregate, socialize and meet fellow members who may be new to the area,” said Opp chamber’s executive director Tonitta Sauls.
“The Hall of Fame was established as part of the annual banquet in 1978 and serves as a way to recognize the contributions an individual or individuals have made to the betterment of the city of Opp, Covington County and the state of Alabama.”
Sauls said each year an unnamed committee selects the Hall of Fame inductee or inductees from a group of nomination applications.
This year’s hall of fame inductee is local physician Dr. Richard J. Spurlin, who began his medical practice in Opp in 1967.
In addition to honoring Dr. Spurlin, the chamber will also recognize a number of individuals who have made significant contributions to the city of Opp, Sauls said.
“The annual banquet serves as an opportunity to recognize other individuals for their service to the community by awarding the ‘Teacher of the Year’, ‘Spirit of Opportunity’ and other community service awards,” she said.
Tickets are $15 each and can be purchased at the Opp Chamber of Commerce.
The annual event will be held at 7 p.m., May 7, at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Center on Whaley Street in Opp.
“The Chamber of Commerce is very proud to recognize those individuals who so unselfishly give of their time and talents to promote the city of Opp,” Sauls said. “We hope to see you there.”
