Red Sox hand Braves loss

The Red Sox defeated the Braves 12-4 Thursday night in Babe Ruth action at Johnson Park.

In the first inning, the Red Sox scored one run off of an error.

The Braves took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first when J. Walker scored on a single from T. Nolen.

Nolen later came in to score on a single by C. Marler.

The Red Sox then took their lead back from the Braves in the third inning, when Powell and Whitehurst scored on one hit and one fielder’s choice.

The Red Sox added seven runs in the fourth inning to take the outright lead.

Powell, Whitehurst, Weaver, H. Greathouse, Hammett, F. Greathouse, Odom and Smith all scored for the Red Sox in the fourth on two doubles and one single.

In the fifth, the Red Sox added one run on a single from Newby.

To seal the win, the Sox scored its last run in the seventh inning when F. Greathouse scored his team’s last run

The Braves scored two runs in the seventh in the loss.

Whitehurst allowed four runs on five hits and struck out 12 batters.
