Civitan political forum tonight

A dozen candidates have agreed to participate in tonight’s Civitan political forum, co-sponsored by WAAO and The Andalusia Star-News.

The event starts at 6 p.m. at Andalusia City Hall.

Candidates expected to participate include Mike Jones and Greg White, Republicans who will meet each other in next week’s primary for state House of Representatives, as well as the Democratic and independent candidates for that office, David Darby, who is unopposed, and Don Cotton; The forum also will feature two women vying for the right to oppose Congressman Bobby Bright in the November race for U.S. House of Representatives, Stephanie Bell and Martha Roby.

Other candidates participating have no opposition on next Tuesday’s primary ballots. They are candidates for coroner, Norman Hobson (D) and Eddie Rowell (R); candidates for district attorney, Greg Gambrel (D) and Walt Merrell (R); and candidates for sheriff, Dennis Meeks (D) and John Davis (R).
