CHARLES GREGORY “GREG” MCCORD

Charles Gregory “Greg” McCord, 53, of Opp, died Sat., May 22, 2010, at his residence.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., today, Tues., May 25, from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Schmidt officiating and burial following in the Henderson Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Foreman Funeral Home.

He served his country as a captain in the Alabama National Guard in Ft. Payne and worked as an editor and longtime reporter at The Andalusia Star-News.

Survivors include his mother, Phyllis McCord of Opp; daughters and son-in-law, Melissa (Chris) McCord Amos of Prattville and Anna Bay McCord of Andalusia; his son, Jay McCord of Andalusia; and his grandson, Brooks Amos.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ray McCord.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to his children.

TARA PETTY

Tara Petty, 35, of Pensacola, Fla., formerly of Andalusia, died Sat., May 22, 2010, in Pensacola.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wed., May 26, at Foreman Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thurs., May 27, from the Foreman Funeral Chapel.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Wayne and Catherine Tatum and Wilson and Nina Petty, all formerly of Andalusia.

Survivors include her parents, Gary and Brenda Petty of Andalusia; her sister, Ginger Wilson, Birmingham; a nephew, Connor Wilson, Birmingham; her beloved dog, Sam.; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tara Petty Memorial Scholarship Fund at any Wachovia Bank branch.

ELEANOR W. GRIGGS

Eleanor W. Griggs, 69, of Red Level, died Sat., May 22, 2010, in the Andalusia Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Wed., May 24, from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Jack Mott Jr. officiating and burial following in Cedar Grove Church of Christ Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Thornton Griggs of Red Level; her sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Donna Rambo of Andalusia, and Corey and Teah Griggs of Montgomery; two stepsons and daughter-in-law, Joe and Janna Griggs and Jerry Griggs, all of Texas; 12 grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Elaine and Jack Mott, Sr. of Valparaiso, Fla.; and brother and sister-in-law, Arlen and Pat Williams of Enterprise.

Pallbearers will be Tony Fendley, Donnie Griggs, Justin Griggs, Jonathan Griggs, Jimmy Rodgers and Greg Nolan.

JANIE LEE TARTE BASS

Janie Lee Tarte Bass, 90, of Jacksonville, Fla., passed away peacefully Sun., May 23, 2010, in Jacksonville after celebrating her 90th birthday.

She was the loving wife of James Verlin Bass, who preceded her in death by only a year, and a devoted mother to her three children who succeed her, James M. Bass of Monterey, Calif., Patricia Bass Lincoln of Columbia, S.C., and Roger D. Bass of Jacksonville, Fla.

She also leaves five beautiful grandchildren and five precious great-grandchildren. She loved the Lord and was a blessing to all who knew her during her long and fruitful life. She was a teacher and mentor to countless numbers at the local Baptist churches where she served at each location when she lived in Florida, Mississippi and Alabama.

Funeral services will be held on Wed., May 26, at 2 p.m. from the Foreman Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in the Andalusia Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services.

MARGARET DAVIS DORMAN MADDOX

Margaret Davis Dorman Maddox, 90, of Montgomery, died Mon., May 24, 2010, in the Luverne Hospital.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m., Wed., May 26, at the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery with Foreman Funeral Home directing and Minister Charles A. Lee officiating. The family will receive friends at the cemetery.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Billy W. and Shirley Dorman of Montgomery; a grandson, Jeff Dorman of Montgomery; her sisters, Bonnie Faye Earnhardt of Destin, Fla., and Valeta Dupree of Houma, La.; a brother, Robert A. Davis of Andalusia; and several nieces and nephews.
