Grandparents from around the county need to make plans to “hele mei hoohiwahiwa” or “come celebrate” as Hawaii comes to the Adult Activity Center with a luau.

Luaus are traditional Hawaiian celebrations, which are held for all types of events.

“We will hold our annual grandparents day celebration on July 15,” said Debbie Carter of the AAC. “We will have music of some sort and plenty of children’s games.”

Typically the AAC doesn’t allow children, but Carter said this is the one time a year youngsters are allowed.

The center will be decorated in Hawaiian décor complete with flowers.

“We are working on goody bags and all sorts of stuff. We’ve ordered all kinds of knick knacks for the goody bags.”

“We’ll also have hula hoops,” she said.

Carter said the event is free with a covered dish, but said the center would have items such as hot dogs and Hawaiian Punch.

The event will last from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Event goers should remember to don their favorite lei or grass skirt in celebration.
