Starting Thursday night, the 2010 Babe Ruth All-Stars Alabama state softball tournament will kick off at the Andalusia Sports Complex.

For three days, teams from Alexander City, Atmore, Elba, Covington County and Andalusia will vie for a spot to play at the softball regional tournament in Altamonte Springs, Fla., on July 22.

“We’re looking forward to it,” said Dwight Mikel, Andalusia director of leisure services. “We look for good crowds, because as a general rule, this age group not only brings their parents, but their grandparents, and on occasion, their aunts and uncles.”

The age groups competing in the tournament are between 6-14 years olds.

Cost of daily admission is $7 for adults; $4 for children, and 6-and-under are free on a daily pass. Tournament passes are $10 for adults, $6 for children 6-11 and children 6-and-under are free. The family pass is $25 for the whole family, but the family must live in the same household.

The tournament is in a double elimination format.
