Alexander City defeated South Alabama 14-5 in 12-and-under action Friday afternoon in the 2010 Alabama State Babe Ruth softball tournament at the Andalusia Sports Complex.

Alex City scored five runs in the first inning, two runs in the second inning, six runs in the fifth inning and one run in the sixth inning.

South Alabama scored its only five runs in the fifth inning.

Alexander City’s Sara Beth Kelley led in scoring with three runs; Tee Wynchoff, Loren Bishop and Maya Towns scored two runs each; and Dee Wychott, Becca Caldwell, Taylor Hutto, Jordan Andrews and Laci Bishop scored one run each.

For South Alabama, Haley Harper, Takia Walker, Shelby Nixon, Breanna Corbell and Linsey Smithart scored one run each.

South Alabama will play the loser of the Friday night contest between Covington County and Elba at noon today on Field No. 3.
