Smith, McCurdy to wed

Mr. and Mrs. Sam Skipper of McKenzie and Mr. and Mrs. Don Smith of Sylacauga are delighted to announce the engagement of their daughter, Rachel Noel Smith, to William Everette McCurdy.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mrs. Betty Riggs and the late Hilburn Riggs and Mr. and Mrs. Lavaughn Skipper. She is a graduate of Sparta Academy and Troy University, where she earned a bachelor of science in history. She will attend the University of Alabama on fellowship for geography where she will work in the map archive.

The prospective groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Everette McCurdy of Troy. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Fike, Mrs. Eveylyn McCurdy, Mr. Raiford Jordan, the late Mr. Aaron McCurdy and the late Mr. Tommy Morgan.

He is a graduate of Zion Chapel High School and Troy University, where he earned a bachelor of science in mathematics.

He is currently pursuing a doctorate of philosophy in mathematics at the University of Alabama, where he also works as a professor’s assistant.

The wedding ceremony will be held on July 24, 2010, at Antioch East Baptist Church, at 2 p.m., with the reception immediately following.

All family and friends are invited to attend the wedding and reception.
