Fewer than 20 percent vote

Slightly fewer than 20 percent of the registered voters in Covington County and in Alabama voted in Tuesday’s runoff elections.
In Covington County, 4,001 Republicans and 246 Democrats voted Tuesday. They represent 19.9 percent of the 21,317 registered voters in Covington County.
In Alabama approximately 457,676 Republicans and 114,197 Democrats voted in the runoff. The total, 571,873, represents 19.4 percent of the state’s 2.9 million registered voters.
Locally, Sammy Glover, member of the Board of Registrars, said turnout was better than he expected.
“We’ve had another election when it was this low,” he said. “With no local candidate on the ballot, there just wasn’t enough interest.
