The Andalusia Ballet Association will kick off its 28th anniversary season Saturday with its annual “Opening Night” auction and dinner.

The event features a dinner buffet and silent auction followed by a dance performance and live auction. This year’s theme is the Roaring 20s.

Andalusia Ballet artistic director Meryane Murphy said the Ballet chooses a theme for this event each year.

Ryan Carroll, a Montgomery native and former member of the Alabama Dance Theatre who currently works in New York, has choreographed several dances from the era that students will perform at the auction.

The event features a silent and live auction. Perhaps the most talked-about item being auctioned is a cymbal signed my all the members of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Other items contributed for auction include art work, lessons, tickets for theatre and ballet events, photo packages, and many others.

The auction is set for 6 p.m. this Sat., Aug. 14, at the Andalusia Country Club. Tickets are $75 per couple and are available at the Andalusia Ballet studio and from ABA board members.

Board members also are selling $10 chances on a seven-day stay in a Destin home that has five bedrooms plus a guest house, pool and jacuzzi to be used some time between Aug. 15, 2010, and March 1, 2011. The winner will be drawn during Saturday’s auction.
