The Opp Bobcats will play W.S. Neal tonight in a pre-season jamboree football game in East Brewton.

Opp coach Jack Whigham said Wednesday night the key for his team is to “take care of the football.”
“We’ve got to take care of the football,” he said. “We can’t turn the ball over, and we’ve got to tackle well.”

Whigham said he has been “concerned” with his team’s offense at practice lately.

“I’m a little concerned offensively in that we’re missing assignments at practice,” he said. “When you miss assignments, you can turn the ball over in a hurry.”

W.S. Neal has 34 starters on the team, but 13 of those didn’t play last season, Whigham said.

“So, they’ve got 21 upper classmen that didn’t play last year,” he said.

Tonight’s game will consist of the younger players playing the entire first quarter, and the first four minutes of the second quarter. Then, the older players will take over, no matter the score, Whigham said.

“We’re going to get everybody in the game,” Whigham said. “We’re going to film them, and see what the quarterbacks can do under center, how fast the runners are and who can block.

“Obviously, we want to win the game, but at the same time, I’d like to make sure the players realize that we’ve got a 10-game regular season to prepare for,” he said.

Tonight’s game starts at 7 p.m.
