Mark your calendars now for the 6th Annual Deep South Doggie Dash & Strut Your Mutt Walk scheduled for Sat., Sept. 25, 2010, from 10 a.m. until noon at the Nature Trail on the LBW Community College campus in Andalusia. Now is the time to pre-register before the Sept. 10 deadline.

The event is organized by the Andalusia Area Humane Society and will include a fun leisurely Strut Your Mutt Walk for adults and Doggie Dash Races for children 12 and under. The top three finishers in each of the children’s race will receive medals. In addition to the medals, there will be awards for best dog costume, best owner/dog look-alike, and more fun contests for all participants. There will also be a special “Doggie Dash Hero Award” that will be presented to the participant who raises the most money.

“We strongly encourage people to pre-register to guarantee they receive their desired t-shirt size and to receive information about the Doggie Dash Hero Award,” said Patty Singleton-Seay, AAHS event coordinator. “People who plan to participate can raise extra money by asking friends and family members to make small donations to our cause. This money is not part of the registration fee, but it does qualify participants for the Doggie Dash Hero Award which will be presented at the conclusion of the event.”

“Our organization is in desperate need of funding to continue our mission,” Singleton-Seay said. “If you care about helping animals, this is your opportunity to make a difference and you can do it with your dog beside you. We ask participants to only bring dogs that are friendly, leashed and current with their vaccinations.”

A free fall photo and one Doggie Dash T-shirt are provided for each registered participant. The pre-registration fee is $30 and registration forms are available at CCB Community Bank, Covington Electric Coop-erative, Jones Veterinary Hospital, Andalusia Animal Clinic and online at www.an-dalusiahumanesociety.com. The deadline for pre-registration is Sept. 10, 2010.

“We are also still looking for event sponsors,” Singleton-Seay said. “We currently have several sponsors, but we’re hoping for many more. The sponsorship categories range from $75 to $250. All sponsors will be recognized at the event. Any business or individual can serve as a sponsor. People can honor a family member who loves animals by purchasing a sponsorship in their name or they can do a memorial or honorariam in the name of a beloved pet.”
