Women’s ministry speaking sensation Sherri Burgess will speak to a sold-out crowd Sept. 14.
Burgess will be the keynote speaker at Opp’s Southside Baptist Church annual Ladies Night Out.
Burgess is the wife of Rick Burgess from the radio show “Rick and Bubba.”
Event organizer Brenda Bess said she is anticipating more than 400 people to attend the event.
“We sold all of the tickets in about two weeks,” she said. “We’ve had (crowds) this big before, but I think they sold out because of our speaker.”
This isn’t the first time the church has sought to get Burgess to speak at the event.
“We had heard about (Burgess) a couple of years ago,” she said. “We tried to get her once before and but she wasn’t really do a lot of talking them, but we tried again and she agreed to come.”
Bess said the women’s ministry is really excited about Burgess coming to Opp.
“Some of the women have heard or read her testimony, and it’s a great one,” she said.
The Burgesses lost their youngest son, Bronner, in January 2008, when he drowned after falling into a pool.
In her speeches, Burgess shares the spiritual lessons she has learned since her son’s death.
Bess said the church has sponsored the “Ladies Night Out” since 1997.
“The ladies come together and sing praises and hear testimony, she said. “We have a delicious meal that our men serve us. It’s a good time for us to get refreshed in the Lord.”
