Idle Hour seeks club license

The Andalusia City Council took no action on a request by the owners of the Idle H our for a club retail liquor license.
With three members of the council – Hazel Griffin, Will Sconiers and Terry Powell – routinely voting against or abstaining from any issue involving alcohol licenses, voting can sometimes be tricky. As a general rule, Kennith Mount makes the motion on such requests, Jason Jewell seconds, and Mayor Earl Johnson votes with them.
When Idle Hour owner Jerry Newton’s request came before the council in its work session, Mount was willing to make the motion, but Jewell said he needed to find out more about club licenses.
If approved, the change would allow the establishment to be open seven days a week.
When asked, Police Chief Wilbur Williams said local law enforcement has no problems there.
“They police themselves,” he said.
The council did approve a retail beer license for A-Town Pizza and Subs.
