Coleman, English found guilty

A Covington County jury found two “poster children for career criminals” from Opp guilty Tuesday night for selling illicit drugs in December 2009.

Following a two-day trial, the jury, comprise of eight men and four women, deliberated for nearly two hours before convicting Kelvis Coleman, 31, on one count of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance and Willie George English, 32, on one count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and one count of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

District Attorney Greg Gambril represented the state.

“These two guys could be poster children for career criminals,” Gambril said. “Between the two of them, there are 10 felony convictions and 29 misdemeanor convictions.”

The two defendants will be sentenced by Circuit Court Judge Ashley McKathan on Oct. 20.
