United Fund drive kicks off

United Fund of Covington County officially kicked off its 2011 fund drive at a breakfast Thursday, and hopes to have raised $115,000 by the end of October.
United Fund board vice president Dwight Mikel passed out fundraising packets to representatives of each of this year’s United Fund agencies. In turn, those packets will be delivered to businesses across the county.
Mikel said UF has already solicited 2,200 individuals by personal mail, and board members have meet with the county’s largest employers to allow them to begin fundraising within their organizations. Already, $11,000 has been raised.
This year’s drive is raising money for the Covington County chapter of the American Red Cross; Impact of Covington County; Boy Scouts; Andalusia Ministerial Association; Girl Scouts; Andalusia Ministerial Association; Girl Scouts; Covington County Adult Training Center; Covington County 4-H Clubs; Opp Meals on Wheels; Youth Sports Recreation Boards; SAFE of Covington County; Andalusia Community Christmas; Andalusia, Opp and Florala public libraries; Opportunity House; Crossover Ministries; Governor’s Committee on Employment of Persons with Disabilities; Sav-A-Life; and the Opp Benevolence Fund.
