Covington County residents rallied together and contributed more than 600 bras to the “Underwires for the Wiregrass” monument drive.

Local organizers Kandise Finley and Charity Fountain, sisters who lost their mother in March to breast cancer, asked the community to take part in WKMX’s push to construct a peanut shaped monument from thousands of bras to serve as a reminder to all women how vital a yearly mammogram is.

More than 600 bras were collected in the county.

Today, morning show personalities “Julie” and “Billy” will broadcast from the Dothan Women’s Medical Center for the construction.

The 611 bras collected locally will be used and made up more than half of the 1,000 needed to construct the monument.

“We just want to thank everyone who made this possible,” Finley said. “The support was fantastic, and we can’t say thank you enough.”
