Opp to face Dale County Friday

If the Opp Bobcats don’t win on the road against region opponent Dale County this Friday night, then the playoffs are out of the picture, OHS coach Jack Whigham said Wednesday.

“We’ve got to win,” he said. “It’s now or never.”

The Bobcats (2-4, 2-2 in Class 3A, Region 2) lost in overtime last week to Pike County, who is at the top of the region standings. Opp and Luverne have the same region record at 2-2.

“It was a good game,” Whigham said about last week. “We played hard, and we had opportunities to win the game — we just had a couple missed scores. We just didn’t quite get it done for whatever reason.”

Opp will face a Dale County team that has yet to win a game this season.

The Warriors run the ball on offense and use a 40-type defense.

“Offensively, we’ve got to make sure we move the chains and not turn the ball over,” Whigham said. “And, we’ve got to be more efficient in the passing game.

“Defensively, we’ve got to get them off the field,” he said. “We can’t allow (Dale County) to control the clock. We’ve got to be able to stop their running game.”

Kickoff in Midland City is at 7 p.m.
