MARVIN EUGENE HAMMETT

Marvin Eugene Hammett, 95, of Andalusia, died Thurs., Oct. 7, 2010, in the Andalusia Manor.

He was born Dec. 28, 1914, to Elmer Eugene and Laura Wyatt Hammett. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, having served his country in the U. S. Army. During his professional life, he owned Hammett Drilling Company for many years.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Sat. Oct. 9, from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Douglas Golden officiating and burial following in Macedonia Cemetery. Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Foreman Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife, Mozelle Hammett; his son and daughter-in-law, Seth and Nancy Hammett; and his daughters and son-in-law, Joan Russell and Carolyn and Rayford Davis, all of Andalusia; his grandchildren, Terri Davis Wilson, Dwain Merrill Davis, Debbie Davis Posey, Jo Lynn Cox, Seth Merrill Hammett Jr. and Catherine Carmack Hammett; and seven-great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Dwain Davis, Steve Posey, Clayton Posey, Merrill Hammett, Ronnie Cox and Azaryah Wilson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Macedonia Cemetery Fund, 37097 Straughn School Road, Dozier, AL 36028, or the charity of one’s choice.

JIMMY EARL LUNSFORD

Jimmy Earl Lunsford, 71, of Dozier, passed away on Oct. 7, 2010, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Sat., Oct. 9, at Good News Chapel with the Rev. Jay Driver officiating and interment following in the Good News Chapel cemetery with Keahey Funeral Home directing.

Vistation will be held tonight from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Keahey Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at Good News Chapel.

He is survived by sons, Perry (Kim) Mears Jr. of Rosehill, Terry Lee Mears of Dozier, Bruce Earl Lunsford of Rosehill, Larry Danny Lunsford of Rosehill and Teddy Doyle (Everetta) Lunsford of Rosehill; daughters, Velinda Diane Lunsford, Sherry (Larry) Sorrells, Marta (Bobby) Godwin, all of Rosehill, and Judy (Tom) Jones of Florala; sister, Delane Mcpherson of Opp; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah J. Lunsford, and his granddaughter, Tashea Hammett.

FRED “DON” CHESSER

Fred “Don” Chesser, 79, of Red Level, passed away Tues., Oct. 5, 2010, in the Luverne hospital.

He served in the U.S. Army and retired from the Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Local #52 of Montgomery.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., today, Fri., Oct. 8, at Pigeon Creek Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. John Eiland officiating.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Donnie and Patty Chesser of Webb, Loyd and Tammie Chesser of Red Level and Curtis and Stephanie Chesser of Evergreen; daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Danny Elmore of Andalusia; three brothers, Morgan Chesser of Stockton, George Chessher and Butch Chesser, both of Red Levell sister, Era Chesser of Greenville; nine grandchildren, Brandy Beverly, Slick Nixon, John Nixon, Kristen Meeks, Chad Chesser, Curt Chesser Jr., Jacob Chesser, John L. Chesser and Brad Strickland; and six great-grandchildren, Dustin Beverly, Matthew Beverly, Maggie Nixon, Sydney Nixon, Greer Meeks and Lauren Meeks.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Earnestine King Chesser; son, Kennith Chesser; and a great-grandson, Mark Lavon Beverly Jr.

LARRY W. HAWKINS

Larry W. Hawkins, 57, of Andalusia, died Wed., Oct. 6, 2010, in the Dothan hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Sat., Oct. 9, at Keahey Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Brent Cook officiating and interment following in the Stone Lake Gardens

Visitation will be held tonight from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Keahey Funeral Home.

He is survived by his mother, Ruby Hawkins of Dozier; son, Jerome Hawkins of Andalusia; daughters, Chrisan (Thurston) Turner of Red Level and Tabathe (Rickey) Harrison of Andalusia; brother, Jimmy (Martha) Hawkins of Dozier; sister, Linda Adams of Dozier; and grandchildren, Shawn O’neal, Hailey O’neal, Jacob Hawkins, Jeremiah Adkison and Jordan Hawkins

He was preceded in death by his father, James Hawkins; brother, Jerry Hawkins, and brother-in-law, Ronnie Adams.

Serving as pallbearers are Dwayne Adkison, Nathan McCormick, Jason Jeffcoat, Larry Bare, Scott Adams and Johnny Duggan.

IRENE DAY COOK

Irene Day Cook, 84 of Opp, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010 in the Florala nursing facility.

Graveside services will be held today, Fri., Oct. 8, at 2 p.m. at Bethel Cemetery with Keahey Funeral Home directing and the Rev. Billy Boles officiating.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Tommy Wood of Bay Minette; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Linda Day of Opp, James Day of Crestview, Fla., and Richard and Maxine Day of Opp; three grandchildren, Tom Wood of Dallas, Texas, and Connie and Brian Meverden of Wichita, Texas, and Martha Wood of Dallas, Texas; and great-grandchildren, Bethanney Meverden, Faith Wood, Nick Wood, Serena Wood and Cameron Wood.

SHIRLEY CLARK GODWIN

Shirley Clark Godwin, 73, of Andalusia, died Tues., Oct. 5, 2010, in a Birmingham hospital.

She was born in Alabama on Aug. 19, 1937, to Robert Cecil Clark and Cecilia Raley Clark. She was a retired recording clerk for the Covington County Probate Office, having worked there for 30 years.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., today, Fri., Oct. 8, from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Frankie McVay officiating and burial following in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery.
