This Saturday, the Andalusia Lady Bulldogs, along with seven other teams, will battle for the Class 4A Regional A south regional tournament title in Andalusia.

The Lady Bulldogs won the right to host the regional tournament by claiming the Class 4A, Area 3 title Tuesday night with a 3-0 sweep over the Ashford Lady Yellow Jackets.

“All the teams at this level are good,” AHS coach Angie Grimes said. “We’re preparing for them just like anybody else that’s gotten to this point.

“Our prime objective at practice is to work on our defense because these teams are going to hit, and they’re going to be pretty disciplined,” she said.

Andalusia will be playing Saraland, the No. 4 seed out of Area 1 at 11:15 a.m.

The tournament format is single elimination, and the top four teams will advance to the sub-state round on Oct. 21.

In order for the Lady Bulldogs to do this, then they’ll have to win the first match of the day against Saraland. After that, the remaining teams will compete in the semifinals, consolation and championship rounds.

“There will be four teams going home by lunch,” Grimes said. “The four that will stay will be playing for seeding purposes. So, you have to win the first game. We want to come in at the top two — of course we want to win it, but coming in the top two, you’ll get the chance to host the sub-state game.”

Grimes said she is taking the tournament “one game at a time.”

“Right now, it’s just one game at a time,” she said. “Just being consistent and being able to execute.”
