A Florala man is dead following a late night crash in Walton County, Fla., Thursday, and his family grieving after discovering his body Friday morning.

Kenneth Deron Brooks, 25, of Florala, died as a result of a crash when he lost control of his 2002 Chevy pickup. Brooks was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle as it rolled.

Florida State Trooper reports indicate the wreck occurred around 10:30 p.m. on County Road 181 West and Eight Mile Cemetery Road in Walton County, Fla.

According to the trooper’s report, Brooks was not located at the crash scene when a Florida Trooper, Walton County deputies, Fire Rescue and family members searched the wooded area by the crash.

It was believed that Brooks had left the scene, and the truck was towed.

However, Brooks failed to return home following the accident, and family members returned to the scene Friday morning to again search.

Brooks’ body was located about 60 feet from where the truck had come to a rest.

According to the Trooper’s report, “The wooded area was so dense that the deceased body was not visible from just a few feet away.”
