Some 17 bands will take the field today at the 30th annual Little Big Horn marching band competition.

Opp Band Director Randy Hughey said on a normal year more than 4,000 spectators enter Channel-Lee Stadium, making it the second largest annual event in the city of Opp, second only to the Rattlesnake Rodeo.

Locally, Red Level’s Touch of Class will take the field at 3 p.m., and Andalusia’s A Sound Tradition will perform at 7:40 p.m.

Hughey said other bands from the surrounding area participating include New Brockton, Zion Chapel and Elba.

Opp will take the field at the end of the show for an exhibition.

The event will begin at 1 p.m. Admission is $6 for ages 6 and up.
