KIRBY SIMS MCPHERSON

Kirby Sims McPherson, 82, of Tuscaloosa, died Oct. 19, 2010, at DCH Regional Medical Center.

Mr. McPherson was born in Birmingham and raised in Dozier.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., today, Thurs., Oct. 21, at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Pastor Jonathan Ivey officiating.

Visitation was held Wed., Oct. 20, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. as well as one hour before services at the funeral home.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Oweta McPherson; son, Gary McPherson, both of Tuscaloosa; parents, Kirby S. and Myrtle McPherson of Dozier; brother, Wayne McPherson of Smith Station, Ala.; brother and sister-in-law, Cleon and Ann McPherson of Albany, Ga.; his sister, Martha (Pat) Little of Montgomery; son, Steve (Sarah) McPherson of Vance; daughter, Joy (Mike) Christensen of Defeated Creek, Tenn.; his grandchildren, Jason Christensen, Rachel (Michael) Hula of Hickman, Tenn., Justin (Alexandria) McPherson of Coaling, Ala.; Joshua McPherson of Vance and Ashley (Blake) Squires of Tuscaloosa; eight great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Alvin Watson of Milton, Fla.; sister-in-law, Katie Lee (Lamar) Maddox of Andalusia; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.

Pallbearers will be Jason Christensen, Justin and Joshua McPherson, Blake Squire, Sidney Little and Dennis McPherson.

Honorary pallbearers are Alabama Society of Professional Land Surveyors, Woodland Forrest Baptist Church, West Alabama Society Professional Surveyors, Wright’s Restaurant and his many friends.

He was a professional land surveyor and was retired from Alabama Highway Department. He was a director of Alabama Society of Professional Land Surveyors. He was a man who loved meeting his friends at Wright’s Restaurant for breakfast and visiting with them. He never met a stranger and loved talking to everyone. He also loved Crimson Tide football and will be missed by everyone. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather and friend until God called him home to survey for Him.

A special thanks to those at Wright’s Restaurant and all of his friends, Woodland Forrest Baptist Church, DCH nurses and the American Red Cross for all the prayers and loving care they provided.
