Runners are needed for the 10th annual Coterie Club “Run for Kids.”

The run includes three different types of “runs,” including a 5K run/walk for all ages at 9 a.m., with the starting line beginning in front of the First United Methodist Church on East Three Notch Street.

Children ages 3 to 16 may participate at 10 a.m. in the Meredith’s Mile, which starts art the CCB Community Bank parking lot. Children 0 to 4 can participate in the tot trot, which will be held behind Andalusia City Hall.

The purpose of the run is to raise money for the community.

“The Coterie Club of Andalusia has contributed thousands of dollars to improve the quality of life for all children in Covington County,” said Coterie Club member Heather Owen.

Last year’s event raised more than $12,000 for a total of more than $94,000 over the last nine years.

Organizations that receive contributions from Coterie include Andalusia City Schools, Covington County Schools, Covington County Junior Miss, Opportunity House, Meredith’s Miracles, Relay for Life, city and county sports scholarships, elementary teacher scholarships, Community Christmas, Camp Smile-a-Mile, Camp ASCCA and Covington Arts Council.

Additionally, Coterie presented 13 college scholarships to high school seniors.

Anyone interested in participating may register today, Fri., Oct. 29 from 5:30 until 8 p.m. at the Andalusia Area Chamber of Commerce or the day of the race, Sat., Oct. 30 from 7 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. on the front lawn at city hall.

Registration fees are $12 for the 5K if paid on Friday and $15 the day of the race; Meredith’s Mile $10 on Friday and $12 the day of the race; and there is no charge for the tot trot.

Racers will be awarded trophies, medallions and door prices, and the club members are also selling $1 chances to win $250.

“The awards presentations will be on the front lawn of city hall this year, instead of the city square due to the Halloween on the Square festivities set up,” Owen said.
