Candidates raise $90K in 35 days

More than $285,000 has been donated to the campaigns of five Covington County individuals seeking election to two offices on Tuesday.
When 10-day reports were filed in the Secretary of State’s office this week, the candidates had added $90,674 to their election coffers in the 35 days since 45-day reports were filed.
Mike Jones Jr., who is seeking election to the Alabama House of Representatives in District 92, led the fundraising, received $63,235 in contributions and 16,569 in in-kind contributions in the most recent reporting period. He was followed by Independent challenger Don Cotton, who received $11,500. Darby, the Democratic candidate, received $1,800.
Members of the House of Representatives earn approximately $49,500 annually for part-time work. House members receive a low salary plus expenses. (Source: Sunshine Review).
In the district attorney’s race, Republican Walt Merrell received $8,724 in the most recent period, while the incumbent, Democrat Greg Gambril, received $5,415.
