Dennis Meeks was re-elected to a second term as Covington County Sheriff, pulling in 9,065 votes.
Meeks opponent, John Davis (R) of Lockhart, withdrew from the race in October; however the ballots were already printed. Tuesday, Davis garnered 2,864 votes or 24 percent of the 12,298 ballots cast.
Meeks drew 76 percent of the popular vote.
“I thank everyone for their vote and their support,” Meeks said. “Whether you voted Democrat or Republican, the sheriff’s office is here for every citizen in Covington County and we will do our job every day.
“I appreciate the support we’ve seen over the last several months,” he said. “It’s my pleasure and honor to have served the people of Covington County for the last four years, and I look forward to the next four.”
