The most recent numbers show sales tax collections throughout the county are holding steady, with no significant changes.

Those figures, which represent taxes collected in September and remitted in October, are the first reported for this fiscal year.

Andal-usia reported $351,752 had been remitted by city merchants. That figure is only $3,200 less than collections from the previous month.

Assistant County Administrator Pam Steele said Wednesday that one month into the new fiscal year, collections are 2.11 percent higher than last year.

“This year, we collected $585,836,” she said. “Last year, it was $573,745, so it is up.”

Since the fiscal year began in October, the month’s collection represents the county’s year-to-date total, Steele said.

Opp saw a nearly $14,000 decrease in collections from September to October.

The city collected $154,683 in October, which is down from the $168,591 collected in September.

City Clerk Connie Smith said the city has seen only a slight decrease of $3,600 in collections from this time last year.
