An 18-wheeler crashed through a River Falls home shortly after 8:45 p.m. Thursday, taking out the home’s living room.

The accident occurred at the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 84 and Alabama Highway 55, when, according to River Falls Police Chief Greg Jackson, the driver failed to stop at the stop sign and attempted to make the sharp turn south.

This tree stopped the truck, but the impact turned over the trailer

“The driver said his breaks failed, causing the accident,” Jackson said. “When he failed to stop, he tried to make the turn, but slid off the roadway. The truck struck a tree, causing it to stop, but the trailer overturned and struck the front of the house.”

The trailer slammed into the home’s formal living, and luckily, the homeowners, LoyRay and Christine Morgan, were in the rear of the home at the time of the accident.

The driver, who was unidentified, was the only person to be injured during the accident. The truck he was driving carried an ownership decal of Idlewood LLC of Livingston, Ala.

Jackson said the driver suffered a minor head injury and was transported to Andalusia Regional Hospital for treatment.

The accident remains under investigation by the River Falls Police Department.
