There an estimated 20 people who have yet to return gifts for Friday’s Community Christmas event, said event organizer Larry Avery Tuesday.

“We’re not going to let any child not be taken care of, but those who have angels that they haven’t turned in gifts for should do so as soon as possible,” Avery said.

Support for the organization that will purchase Christmas for more than 600 needy children this year has been “outstanding,” he said.

“People have been generous, not only in purchasing for angels but also for giving donations,” he said.

Thus far, the organization has shopped for more than 150 children, he said.

“Right off the top, we took the 12 and 13 year olds, which was about 75 or so,” he said. “Then, we’ve already bought for another 100. From the looks of things, we’re going to be OK financially, but we’ll have to see at the end of December when the bills come in to be sure.”

Angel gifts can be dropped off at PowerSouth at any time, he said.

“Or they can bring them to the Kiwanis building Thursday after 5 p.m.,” he said. Gifts will be distributed Friday at 6:30 p.m.
