A man accused of molesting his step-granddaughter and woman accused of raping a 15-year-old boy were each arrested Tuesday after being indicted by the Covington County grand jury last week.
William Kendall Adams, 46, is charged with first-degree sexual abuse and sodomy, endangering the welfare of a child and furnishing alcohol to a minor.
“In March, the Andalusia Police Department began an investigation into a sexual abuse case that began five years ago here in the Andalusia Community,” said Sgt. Ray Dixon. “The victim was a 12-year-old female and the offender – Mr. Adams – was her then-40-year-old step-grandfather.”
Dixon declined to comment on the specifics of the case.
“Cases like these are difficult,” Dixon said. “I don’t understand how people do not realize the permanent emotional scars this places on a child besides the fact that not only is this type of behavior illegal, but it’s also morally wrong.”
Adams is currently being held in the Covington County Jail under a $1 million bond.
In addition to Adams’ sex abuse arrest, police also arrested Amanda Lynn Cook, 23, who was indicted on charges of second-degree rape and sodomy and possession of obscene materials. Cook was originally arrested in July for allegedly having inappropriate relations with a boy at Pt. A. Park, and for having an explicit photo of the juvenile on her cell phone.
She was booked into the county jail and held under a $50,000 bond.
