CHRIS KELLEY

Chris Kelley, 30, of Andalusia, passed away Sun., Dec. 19, 2010, in a Dothan hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wed., Dec. 22, at Keahey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Canant officiating and interment following at Andalusia Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Survivors include his wiife, Stephanie Tucker Kelley; mother and stepfather, Betty and Charles Woodall of Enterprise; sons, Jeremy Tucker and Taylor Kelley, both of Andalusia; sister, Charley Sue Woodall of Enterprise; stepsisters, Rachel Woodall and Rebecca Martin, both of Pinson, and Holly Stubblefield of Birmingham; sister-in-laws, Brandy Sutton and Dena and Steve Padgett; maternal grandmother, Geraldine Kelley, all of Andalusia; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Obie Reid Kelley, and father-in-law, Frankie Ray Tucker.

Pallbearers will be Mark Patterson, David Everage, Kyle Harris, Chris Harris, Casey Colvin and Josh Sutton.

SEYMOUR GITENSTEIN

Seymour Gitenstein of Florala passed on Dec. 16, 2010.

Born Aug. 26, 1915, in Manhattan, to Israel Gitenstein and Rose Bralower, Dr. Gitenstein graduated from Townsend Harris and studied piano under Creighton Allen and at the YMIIA NYC School of Music. At 17, Dr. Gitenstein moved to Florala to help run his father’s textile manufacturing business, Riverside Shirt & Underwear Corporation. Throughout his life, Dr. Gitenstein and his wife, Anna Green Gitenstein, were devoted donors to many music and educational institutions. He served as the chairman for the Florala City Board of Education, built the Florala Memorial Hospital and provided numerous scholarships to Florala High School and Paxton High School students. When his wife, Anna, died of Alzheimer’s, he founded the Anna and Seymour Gitenstein Foundation to support Alzheimer’s research as well as his other interests.

He is remembered for his wit, generosity, passion for music and indefatigable will to live. Dr. Gitenstein is survived by his children: Mark Henry Gitenstein, U.S. ambassador to Romania; Dr. Rose Barbara Gitenstein, president of The College of New Jersey, and Susan Gitenstein Assadi, president of Gitenstein & Assadi Public Relations; grandchildren: Rebecca Brown Gitenstein, Benjamin Brown Gitenstein, Sarah Brown Gitenstein, Pauline Hart, Sam Hart and Hannah Lillith Assadi; great-grandchildren, Sam, Max, Eli and Anna; and his sister, Rhoda Sumberg.

Funeral services were held Mon., Dec. 20, at Florala High School.

HELLON RUTH COLVIN

Hellon Ruth Colvin, 91, a resident of Country Club Dr., Greenville, and formerly of Georgiana, died Sat., Dec. 18, 2010.

Funeral services were held Mon., Dec. 20, from the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Harmon officiating and burial following in the Pigeon Creek Cemetery.

Survivors include her daughter, Brenda Hobbs of Greenville; grandchildren, Kelsey Hobbs of Auburn, Zachary Hobbs and Erin Poole, both of Greenville, Valerie McLaughlin of Atlanta, and Emily McLaughlin of Tulsa, Okla.; great-grandchildren, Lilly Poole of Greenville, Lydia McLaughlin and Saxon Danford, both of Atlanta.

Orian T. McGlaun, 94, of the Stanley community, died Sat., Dec. 18, 2010, at his daughter’s residence.

Funeral services were held Mon., Dec. 20, from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery and the Rev. Fred Kelley officiating and special music by Michelle Chesser.

Jacob Wayne Little, 72, of Andalusia, died Sun., Dec. 19, 2010, at his residence.

Steve Anderson, 60, of Red Level, passed away unexpectedly Wed., Dec. 15, 2010, in a Phenix City hospital.

Memorial services were held on Sat., Dec. 18, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness.

Survivors include his wife, Renae Anderson of Red Level; son and daughter-in-law, Benjamin and Vanessa Anderson of Andalusia; daughter and Son-in-law, Hannah and Steve Long of River Falls; brothers and sister-in-law, Ronald and Debbie Anderson of Hermosa, S.D., and Stewart Anderson of River Falls; sister and brother-in-law, Christina and Gary Cole of Excel; and five grandchildren.

WANDA STUDSTILL

Wanda Studstill, 67, of Andalusia, died Sun., Dec. 19, 2010, in a Montgomery Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thurs., Dec. 23, from the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tim Trent officiating and burial following in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Foreman Funeral Home and at the church 30 minutes prior to services.

Survivors include her husband, Charles L. CYNTHIA “SISSY” LYNN WILLIAMS

Cynthia “Sissy” Lynn Williams age 38, of Andalusia, passed away Dec. 16, 2010.

She departed this earthly home with strength and unwavering faith and love for her family. She lived everyday with such zeal and enthusiasm for life.

Funeral services were held Sun., Dec. 19, at Good News Chapel with the Rev. Jay Driver officiating and interment following in the Macedonia Methodist Church Cemetery with Keahey Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her husband, Charles H. Williams of Andalusia; father, Frank Charlton; mother, Shirley Charlton; sons, Timothy Keith Henderson Jr. and Michael Allen Henderson, both of Andalusia; brothers, Danny (April) Charlton of Ooltewah, Tenn., Mark (Chandra) Charlton of Opp, Scott (Amanda) Charlton of Rose Hill and Keith (Stacey) Charlton of Greenville; sister, Melinda (David) Farley of Hueytown; and mother-in-law, Mayve Williams of Dozier.

NINA WEST TAYLOR

Nina West Taylor, 98, of Andalusia, died Fri., Dec. 17, 2010, in hospice at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.

Mrs. Taylor was born near Opp and moved to George County, Miss., in her teens and graduated from Agricola High School. In 1936, she married Waco Taylor and moved to Andalusia.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wed., Dec. 22, at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tim Trent officiating and burial following in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be tonight from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Foreman Funeral Home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Waco; three sisters and seven brothers.

Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Barbara and Douglas Landwehr of Highlands, N.C., and Sandy Palmer of Andalusia; her grandchildren, Kathy Landwehr and her husband Thomas Heintjes and son Daniel of Atlanta, Gretchen Landwehr and husband Steven Szuraz and daughters, Frances and Louisa of Arlington, Mass., and Seannon Baker of Austin, Texas.

Mrs. Taylor will be remembered for her volunteerism and her love for gardening and flower arranging, having won many awards and blue ribbons for her arrangements. She was always eager to share vegetables, flowers and food. She was a volunteer at the Andalusia Hospital for 30 years and active in Fleur De Lis Garden Club and the Andalusia Beautifica-tion Committee. She and her husband Waco spearheaded and helped in the planning of many public areas in Andalusia, including the LBW nature trail and the Church Street medians.

Pallbearers will be James Shaw, Steve Shaw, Marion Person, Robert Persons, Mike West and Seannon Baker.

JAMES LAWSON JR.

James Lawson Jr., 83, of Andalusia, passed away Mon., Dec. 6, 2010, in a Montgomery hospital.

Funeral services were held Fri., Dec. 10, at the Keahey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Hunt officiating; special music provided by Louise Jordan and Michelle Norris; and burial following in the Carolina Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors.

Survivors included his son, Johnny Mack (Cynthia) Lawson of Titus; daughters, Judy Joann Hammonds of Montgomery, Rebecca Ann Terry of Andalusia, Jennifer Dianne (Pat) Bye of Montgomery and Sandra Lynn (Rickey) Byrd of Andalusia; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; brothers, Glenn Lawson and Steve (Linda) Lawson; and sister, Mary Emer (George) Bass, all of Andalusia.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mavis B. Lawson; daughter, Shirley D. Thompson; and his parents, Frances and James Lawson.
