At least two people are dead and another man was injured in house fires across the state Thursday.

In Huntsville, investigators said a house fire started by a space heater in a bedroom killed a man and a 3-year-old early Thursday morning.

Officials said a Huntsville police officer saw the flames and called for help.

In Chickasaw’s historic district early Thursday, fire destroyed a home, damaged another and a tool shed, injured a man and killed two of his three dogs, authorities said.

Neighbors said the home owner was seen emerging from the burning home wrapped in a blanket and carrying one of his three dogs, but he could not save the others.
