Meredith’s Miracles seeking volunteers

The time is near when Meredith’s Miracles works to make sure everyone gets a “kiss” on Valentine’s Day, as the group holds its annual Sundae and Sweet Shoppe fundraiser.
To make the event go off without a hitch, event organizer Kiley Spears said she needs volunteers beginning on Mon., Jan. 17.
“We’re going to start making the sundaes Monday,” she said. “Emily Yehling is in charge and she’s just wonderful. She does a great job, but we do need volunteers to help make the sundaes.
“And we need volunteers of all ages,” she said. “We have a lot of things they can do from washing vases to putting candies down in the jar.”
Spears said they need people to work the store, deliver sundaes on Valentine’s Day and paint baskets.
“We have tons to do,” she said. “We usually say high school age and up, but we’ve had some little ones come and hand the candies to the workers. Don’t assume you can’t do anything. We need your help.”
Sundaes typically include Hershey Kisses, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Tootsie Rolls, bubble gum, peppermint and cinnamon. Sugar-free hard candy selections are usually available upon request.
In addition to the candy sundaes, the Shoppe will feature Chrissie Schubert cookies and other items.
This will be the sixth straight year of sundae sales for the charity created in honor of Meredith McGlamory, who passed away from a form of childhood cancer in 2003. Meredith is Simpson’s granddaughter and the daughter of Janna and Russell McGlamory.
The charity assists parents who have to leave the area to get specialty medical care for their children. Meredith’s Miracles helps with non-medical related expenses, such as gas, lodging and food for families within a 60-mile radius of Andalusia.
Spears said this would be a great community service for school organizations that need hours.
The store, which is located on Stanley Avenue at the Sunshine House, will be open Tues., Feb. 1 through Mon., Feb. 14, from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Anyone interested in volunteering should call Yehling at 427-2217, or June Simpson at 222-3265.
