Local celebrations will take place this weekend and Monday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

• Bethel AME Church in Andalusia will hold a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. tomorrow, Sun., Jan. 16, at 3 p.m. Dr. Earnest Berry and the Gospel Harmonettes will be featured.

• In Opp, the NAACP will hold a march in honor of King on Mon., Jan. 17, beginning at 10 a.m. The march will begin in front of the Opp Police Department and end at MLK Park on Hardin Street.

• In Florala, citizens are urged to gather at the Carver Community Center for the city’s annual parade. Line up is at 10:45 a.m., with step off at 11 a.m.

• St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church family will observe their annual program honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., on Monday at 6 p.m. Special guests will include the Rev. Darrell Caldwell of the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Elba, and the New Pilgrim male chorus from River Falls will sing.
