MARY KATE RAWLS

Mary Kate Rawls was born March 6, 1925, in Northport, to J.C. and Beulah Harris, and the family later moved to Covington County, where she married Willard Rawls in 1942.

She worked at the Alatex until her retirement. During her retirement years, she taught art at the Senior Center and in her home until her death. She was recognized as one of the most accomplished artists in Covington County.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., today, Fri., Jan. 21, in the Gantt Baptist Church with the Rev. Teddy Ward officiating. Interment will follow in Able Cemetery with Foreman Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to services at the church.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Barbara Rawls of Decatur and Jess and Kay Rawls of Birmingham; her daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and Bob Mock of Madison, Miss.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, Buddy and Kathleen Harris of Andalusia.

Honorary pallbearers will be Phil Rawls, Rick Rawls, Rob Rawls, Mike Harmon, Charlie Mock, Brian Mock, Josh Blackledge and Duane Mooney.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gantt Baptist Church.

ALONZO THOMAS COOPER

Alonzo Thomas Cooper, 82, of Panama City, Fla., passed away Tues., Jan. 18, 2011.

He was born Jan. 26, 1928, in Andalusia. He was a retired electrical engineer with the naval base. He was a member of the St. Andrews Kiwanis Club and the I.E.E.E. He was also a member of Shady Hill Freewill Baptist Church in Andalusia and he attended First Baptist Church of Panama City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claud and Ethel Cooper and a brother, Fred Cooper.

He is survived by his wife, Sybil Cooper; two children, Karen DeGracia and husband Carlos and Claude Cooper and wife, Jan; three grandchildren, Natasha DeGracia, Amanda DeGracia and Carlos DeGracia; two sisters, Jeanette Thompson and Mattie Williams; and numerous nieces and nephew.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Fri., Jan. 20, at Carolina Baptist Church Cemetery. Those desiring may make memorial donations to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 1200, Panama City, FL 32402 or to Covenant Hospice, 107 W 19th Street, Panama City, FL 32405 in his memory.

PATRICIA ANN MCDUFFIE

Patricia Ann McDuffie, 64, of Andalusia, died on Mon., Jan. 17, 2011, in a Dothan hospital.

Memorial services will be held today, Fri., Jan. 21, at 10 a.m. from Foreman Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Matt Brady officiating.

She was a loving, caring, giving, kind person, wife, mother and “Nana.” She had a dedication to her family, a strong will, and a love for her flower garden. She will be deeply missed by all of those who knew her and loved her.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Charles W. McDuffie of Andalusia; four children, Debbie (Chuck) Nelson of Enterprise, Valerie (Darryl) Taylor of Birmingham, David (Tammy) McDuffie of Andalusia and Bobby (Tami) McDuffie of the Carolina community; eight grandchildren, Taylor and Abby McDuffie, Megan and Anna Nelson, Devan McDuffie, Nick Lawson and Emma and Bethany Taylor; two brothers, Jerry (Mary) Chapel of Ozello, Fla., and Toby (Bette) Chapel of Sebring, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Catherine and Tobias Chapel; her brothers, Robert and Terry Chapel, and her first grandchild, Cody McDuffie. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham or to the March of Dimes, two organizations that Mrs. McDuffie supported.

Mary Foye Floyd, 79, of Andalusia, died Mon. Jan. 17, 2011, in a Montgomery Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., today, Fri., Jan. 21, from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Donald Hall and the Rev. Larry Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Ronzana and Dennis Eiland, Patricia Thompson and Donnie Mooney of Opp and Frances and Andy Alexander of Andalusia; her grandsons, Keith Thompson and his wife Wendy, Chad Alexander and his wife, Kerry; her granddaughters, Kerri Mathis and her husband, Jim, Lourie Eiland, and Mandy Alexander; great- grandchildren, Peyton Thompson, Mary Beth Alexander, Austin Alexander, and Jack Mathis; a brother, Donald Ray McVay of Pensacola, Fla.; her sisters, Maxine Mooney and Charlotte Hall, both of Opp; and a good friend, Doug Sims.

BETTY G. THORNTON

Betty G. Thornton, 73, of Andalusia, died Mon., Jan. 17, 2011, at her residence.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m., today, Fri., Jan. 21, at the Adellum Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy Boles officiating. Visitation will be prior to and following the service at the church.

Survivors include her son, Joey (Toni) Thornton of Andalusia and William (Connie) Thornton of Shalimar, Fla.; her daughters, Iris Ballard of Andalusia, Connie T. (Brad) Sawyer of Montgomery and Lisa (David) Harper of LaGrange, Ga.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her sisters, Elizabeth G. Wise and Mary G. Bonnie Marie Weeks Caylor, 75, of Andalusia, died Wed., Jan. 19, 2011, in a Crestview, Fla., nursing facility.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Sat., Jan. 22, from Wyatt Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Peaceful Acres Memorial Gardens with Monroe Sasser and Jerry Elmore officiating and Wyatt Funeral Home in Opp directing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Wyman Wayne Caylor; sons and daughters-in-law, Waylon Wayne and Shelia Caylor and Kenneth and Leigh Caylor; grandchildren, Justin and Hali Caylor and Julie C. and James Blaine of El Paso, Texas; great-grandchild, Emma Kate Blaine; mother-in-law, Erma Caylor of Dothan; and sisters-in-law, Onzel (Raymond) Patterson of Dothan and Jean Weeks of Lakeland, Fla.
