The Sharpe family recently held their 65th consecutive reunion.

On Dec. 24, 2010, the Sharpes held their 65th consecutive reunion.The patriarchs, Jeptha Sharp and his wife, Leona Smith Sharp, farmed just north of Buck Creek Church. Mrs. Sharp bore 15 children, but two died at birth. Both Jeptha and Leona passed away in 1945, and the suggestion was made to have the family get together each year starting in 1946 on Christmas Eve. Of the 13 original children, all have passed on except for three – Earl Sharpe, Jesse Sharpe and Lucy Sharpe Kilgore.At first, the family name was spelled without the “e.” When the oldest child Lora went off to college, she thought it looked better to add a “curly” thing at the end, so the “e” stuck.About 40 people attended this year’s event.   Everyone seemed to enjoy the gathering, there was sun most of the day, and the weather turned out great. Lucy Kilgore’s family hosted this year. Ronnie and Phillip Kilgore made sure that there was a fire, chairs and tables were set up ahead of time, covered the tables with colorful cloths and had the hot coffee on . . . Terry Sharpe came over earlier and helped get things ready.There was lots of food of all kinds – chicken, dumplings, ham, potato casserole, chicken, salads and desserts.Jesse Sharpe said a few words before giving thanks.
