As the average retail gas prices in Alabama rise, the price per gallon is again slowly creeping toward the $3 mark.

Average retail gasoline prices in the state have risen 2.8 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.98 per gallon Sunday. This compares with the national average that has increased 1.3 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.09 per gallon, according to gasoline price Web site AlabamaGasPrices.com.

However, some local gas stations are still below the state average.

At Andalusia Gitty-Up-N-Go stores, regular gas is sitting at $2.96 per gallon and at the Murphy USA store near Wal-Mart at $2.94

The opposite is true in Florala where the price per gallon has surpassed the $3 mark, reaching $3.05 at the Tom Thumb store.

In Opp, AAA reports the price was one-cent higher at William’s Texaco at $3.069, but rested at $2.92 at the BP station on Cummings Avenue.
