Today is the last day of business for CJ’s Grille in its current location; however, owner Casey Jones said Thurs-day he hopes to re-open downtown.

Jones said since receiving word his current downtown location had been sold to local attorneys Chris Sledge and Manish Patel, he has been actively searching for a new location.

“We have several prospects for a building, and we’re trying to get that solid,” Jones said. “When we first opened a little more than two years ago, we’d hoped to go to the Andala building, but things didn’t work out.

“As we all know, the Andala building is under current litigation between the city (of Andalusia) and the California investors,” he said. “If both sides agree to a tenant – which, it looks like they’re going to – that’s where we hope to go.”

In December 2009, city officials announced they would seek a declatory judgment against Jeff McClure and Andala Building, LLC, for the rights to the building. City officials believe McClure and his company have not held up their end of the agreement to develop the property.

“It’s a beautiful building,” Jones said. “It’s got three stories, and I’d like to use the bottom floor for the restaurant.

“We’re excited about the possibility,” he said.

Jones said renovations would be needed, including installing bathrooms, to make the space ready. If terms are negotiated, Jones said he hopes to reopen in six months.

Additionally, there is the possibility of the Prestwood building as a new location, he said.

“My first and foremost goal has always been to keep a restaurant for downtown Andalusia,” he said. “We’ve gotten so much support and calls asking us to keep the doors open.”

CJ’s Grille will close tonight at 9 p.m.

“We are trying to dwindle down inventory, and we have new menus printed,” he said. “I just appreciate the support the community has given us, and I invite everyone back as soon as the doors reopen.”
