WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., was officially chosen by his Senate colleagues today as the ranking member of the Sen-ate Bud-get Committee.
“I am honored to have been chosen for this position and am eager to address the serious financial challenges facing our nation. Our budget is in a state of distress. New projections show that in a matter of months our nation’s gross debt will equal the size of our whole economy. Forty cents of every dollar we spend is borrowed. By the end of the decade, the interest on our debt alone will exceed the cost of the entire military budget.
“The path we are on is unsustainable. We cannot continue to spend what we don’t have and borrow what we cannot pay back. We must change course.”
Sessions’ other committee assignments are Armed Services, Judiciary, and Environment and Public Works.
