The Covington County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a Lockhart man after his truck was discovered in a Geneva County river Wednesday.
Chief Deputy David And-erson said officers with the Samson Police Depar-tment and deputies with the Geneva County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call from a motorist who reported a vehicle in the Pea River off of Columbus Holly Road in Geneva County.
“Upon retrieval of the Chevy truck from the river, it was determined it was registered to John Samuel Cope, 34, of Lockhart,” Anderson said.
He said CCSO investigators were contacted, responded to scene and recovered the truck, which is now being processed.
“What I can say at this point is that it is not believed that Mr. Cope was inside the vehicle; however, he is wanted for questioning with two ongoing cases,” Anderson said.
He refused to comment on the nature of the cases, stating only that information would be forthcoming on both cases as they progress.
Anyone with any information on Cope’s whereabouts is asked to contact the CCSO at 334-428-2640.
