Get a nighttime dose of music at the Covington Art Council’s Valentine’s Day performance of “The Music Man.”

“This is a perfect way to spend the evening – go to dinner, then come to the theater,” said CAC director Paula Harr. “This is a national touring company performing with a little bit of local talent thrown in.”

Harr said the production, which was made possible in part by a grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts, follows a fast-talking traveling salesman as attempts to con a small town into buying musical instruments and uniforms for a boy’s band he vows to organize; however, his plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for the town librarian. Chaos ensues as the townsfolk get wind of his scheme.

“This is a wonderful show, with lots of familiar tunes – including ’76 Trombones,’” she said. “To throw in a little hometown flavor locals John Reid McGlamory, Hampton Glenn, Jeremy Boyd, Will Adams and Devin Phillips have graciously agreed to help us out in the performance.”

The performance will begin at 7 p.m. at the Dixon Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students.
